RIDE REPORT
Wednesday, 9 September 2026, Annual Cape Ann Loop ride
Ride Leader: Richard Vignoni
31 miles, 10:00 am start from Gloucester, MA
Riders (12): Richard, Armen Kasparian, Bradley Herrick, Dale Ferguson, Dave Balaban, Ed Hill, Frank Aronson, Gene Ho, Gerry Sheetoo, Ray Obin, Selig Saltzman, and Susan Broome.
Eleven riders made the journey to Stage Fort Park in Gloucester for our annual bike ride around Cape Ann. We were met with muted skies blending into the ocean at the horizon. Just as we were ready to leave, Selig Saltzman, a long-time WW who regularly led this ride with a loyal following, appeared at the start - now we were twelve. We headed out to circumnavigate Cape Ann in a counterclockwise direction. “Not seeing” the no trespassing sign, we biked behind the state fish pier building where large fishing boats were loading, unloading, or docked. We proceeded, hugging the coast and taking in the many scenic views along the way, including stops at Eastern Point Light, Good Harbor Beach, and Cape Hedge Beach for our obligatory WW Cape Ann photo stop.
After a rest stop at the T pier in Rockport, we continued on, stopping to view the privately-owned stone animal sculptures. We then proceeded along the coast, making a loop through Lobster Cove, exiting over the wooden bridge, and arriving at Destino’s sub shop in time for lunch.
At least half of the riders were somewhat “new” to Wednesday Wheelers, but for the few of us long-timers, one of the highlights was seeing, and riding with, Selig.
Thanks to Susan Broome for sweeping and to all those who participated.
Report by Richard Vignoni.
